In Little Women (the 1994 film), Jo Marsh says "I should have been a great many things." And George Eliot supposedly said "It's never too late to be what you might have been."
I like to think that these are good sayings to follow. Because if you believe the latter, it means that you aren't giving up. And if you believe the former, it means that you accept that there are some dreams that you will never attain, and that's okay.
Who I was: A student. A technical writer. A copyeditor in the Features department of a Midwestern city newspaper. A corporate trainer (in 2002 I taught TSA agents how to recognize bomb parts on an x-ray machine and do full-body patdowns, among other skills). An in-house editor for an educational materials developer. A freelance writer/editor/proofreader for a variety of corporate and private clients.
Who I am now: A novelist and short story author in fantasy, SF (especially time travel), horror and even erotica. Dr. Angus (I hold a PhD in Creative Writing). A Senior Lecturer in Publishing and Creative Writing, the Course Leader for the MA Creative Writing and the co-Course Leader for the MA Publishing at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK. The General Director of the Anglia Centre for Science Fiction & Fantasy. A scholar-fan, active in the SFF community and at conventions.
